Verified Purchase
TL;DR: Excellent pen, insane ink capacity, easy to fill and clean, worth every
penny.
Full review: This is my first TWSBI pen and it convinced me to buy a second.
Prior to this I only had experience with LAMY medium nibs and fine-to-4xBroad
italics nibs from a vintage Platignum calligraphy set.
I came from 1.0mm gel pens and, given my time with the broader italics nibs, I
thought I would like this broad nib a lot, but it actually is not my favorite. I
am still giving five stars for two reasons: 1: The nib is still very high
quality. It is purely a matter of personal preference that this pen helped me
discover. 2: The nib is swappable, and you can collect the whole range of nib
sizes for various use cases, increasing the versatility of the pen tremendously.
I'll likely be collecting the 1.1 stub, medium, and possibly the fine nib for
this model in the very near future. I am fairly unlikely to use this broad nib
much, moving forward, and may sell it or trade it or something.
The pen is intended to be run un-posted. I found that mine can post, but not
super securely. For me the balance while posted is fine. The ink flow is blocked
when the back of the pen is fully closed, but I am able to write for several
pages with just the ink in the feed/grip before I need to unseal the pen. I
typically unseal it briefly before writing, close it back up, then can write for
a long time, though I leave it open if I expect to write more than a few pages.
This is a buy-it-for-life item. I expect it to last my entire life. The build
quality is impossible to complain about and give me confidence it can last.
I don't like the display cases these. They clutter my desk, don't have a lot of
alternative uses for me, and end up in the trash (my community has no recycling
program and it is difficult to find a recycling center.) I would prefer a
simpler box made from something biodegradable.
I have two TWSBI pens, this and the diamond 580 AL (1.1mm stub if you want to
see that review.) I expect these to be the only two TWSBI pens I will ever
purchase, not because I am dissatisfied with them, but because they are so good
that it's all I'll ever need.
Highly recommended pen.
