I just wrote a glowing...
I just wrote a glowing review saying these are perfect for note taking, and I
stand by it, with one caveat: These are the gel pens I own that smear MOST when
I use a highlighter over them. I know gel pens aren't good for highlighting in
general, but these are noticeably worse than others. I tested most of my pens,
using a Zebra Mildliner, as well as a Sharpie brand retractable highlighter.
For a rough sorting, from the worst smearing to the least, it went :
Pilot Juice Up,
Pilot G-2
Pilot Hi-Tec-C Maica
Uni-ball Signo RT1 UMN-155 and Pilot Hi-Tec-C were about the same
Uni-ball Signo DX (AKA Uni-ball Signo UM-151)
Bic Velocity
All of the pens tested were either size 0.4 or 0.38, except the Bic Velocity,
which was a whopping 1.6, but still outperformed the rest. I let them all dry
for quite a while before highlighting (a minute +).
In conclusion, I still love the Pilot Juice Up gel pens, but I avoid them if I
know I'm going to be highlighting over text.
